How it works

New jobs in your county. Filings are how we find them.

The Monday list is construction that just filed to start. The data source is public stormwater paperwork. You do not need to care about the permit to use the list. You do need to know where it came from.

We watch official filings nightly

Every night we check Notices of Intent under the California Construction General Permit. That is the state's stormwater permit for construction that disturbs one acre or more, including smaller work that is part of a larger common plan. The State Water Board construction stormwater page describes the permit. We are not the Water Board.

New sites detected nightly from official state filings; contact details added as they're published.

You get a Monday list

Delivery is Monday at 7:00 a.m. Pacific, by email with a CSV attached. Rows are sorted by planned start. A row is marked when that planned start is already more than 60 days past.

The paid file has two parts. New starts are notices filed since the previous file we processed. Just finished are notices of termination effective in the last seven days, for pickups, final hauls, and accounts that are wrapping up.

  • Site address, city, and countyFrom the filing

    Where the work is.

  • Disturbed acresFrom the filing

The acreage on the notice. Sites under this permit disturb one acre or more.

  • Planned start, grading complete, and finishFrom the filing

The dates the filer put on the notice.

  • Operator companyFrom the filing

The operator named on the filing.

  • Contact name, title, email, and phoneFrom the filing

Whoever the filing lists. We do not add a phone number that was not there.

  • WDID, filing date, construction type, and risk levelFrom the filing

The filing identifiers, plus latitude and longitude when the file has them.

  • Contact typeFound by us

Operator, agency, likely consultant, or unclear. A classification, not a second phone number.

  • Late-start markFound by us

We flag a row when the planned start is already more than 60 days past.

Opening the filing itself

SMARTS has no stable link to one filing. The Monday file includes the WDID. Open the public search, choose Construction, and search that WDID. The SWPPP and other permit PDFs are in that public record.

Free list and the paid plan

The free list is one county for this week, with city, acres, construction type, and planned start and finish. It is not a trial of the full file. The paid plan is the Monday CSV for the counties you name. See pricing or ask for the free list.
